Who they are.
Dawn is the daughter of Top Coordinator Johanna, a legendary Sinnoh figure whose Glameow trophy still sits in the Berlitz house when DP opens. Dawn picks Piplup as her starter from Professor Rowan; the Piplup-Chimchar-Turtwig handoff in DP001 is the show's most chaotic starter pick (Ash and Dawn nearly fight over it). Across DP's 193 episodes Dawn climbs the Sinnoh Contest circuit. Her signature: Piplup's refusal to evolve, which the show plays as a relationship choice rather than a developmental delay.
Her rivals include Kenny (childhood friend, Coordinator), Zoey (the older mentor-rival who teaches her the philosophy of "close-knit" Contest combinations), and Ursula (a snobbier antagonist who shows up to push her).
