Privacy Policy

TL;DR

We don't use tracking cookies. We don't run analytics. We don't sell or share your data. The only personal data we ever see is whatever your browser sends to our edge servers when you visit (IP address, user agent), which our hosting infrastructure retains briefly for security and abuse prevention. Game streaks, themes, and "caught" tracking live entirely in your browser's localStorage and never leave your device.

Who we are

Daily Pokemon is a fan-run editorial project at pokedaily.net. It is not affiliated with The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, Creatures Inc., or GAME FREAK. For privacy-related inquiries, contact hi@pokedaily.net.

What we collect

The minimum required to serve the site:

• Request metadata: your IP address, user agent, referrer, and timestamps when you load a page. Our edge / CDN infrastructure retains this briefly (typically a few days) for abuse-prevention and security. We do not access raw request logs.
• Push notification subscription (only if you opt in): your browser's anonymous push endpoint URL plus a hashed identifier. Used solely to send daily-Pokémon alerts. You can revoke at any time by clicking the bell icon again or clearing site data.
• Email address (only if you submit one to "Request a Pokémon" or subscribe): used solely to follow up about your request or send the optional digest. Stored with a transactional email service provider under our control. Never sold, never shared.

We do not collect names, addresses, payment information, location data, or any biometric information.

What stays on your device (localStorage)

The following live entirely in your browser's localStorage and are never transmitted to our servers:

• dp.theme — Paldea Day / Johto Nights / Alola White preference
• dp.pokedle, dp.cry (formerly dp.crydex) — daily-game streaks, results, and play history
• dp.passport — every Pokémon you've viewed (for the Passport completion tracker)
• dp.caught — your "I've caught it" check marks
• dp.showForms, dp.typeFilter — Pokédex filter preferences
• dp.rotom.dismissed — whether you closed the Ask Rotom widget
• dp.consent — whether you've acknowledged this notice

You can clear all of these instantly via your browser's "Clear site data" tool. We never see, sync, or back up any of it.

Categories of third-party service providers

To deliver the site we rely on a small number of standard service-provider categories. GDPR Article 13 and the CCPA require us to disclose the categories of recipients, not the specific vendor names. The categories are:

• Video hosting (only when you press play on the daily video): the video host sets its own cookies and may collect data per its own privacy policy. Where possible we use a privacy-preserving embed mode to reduce that.
• Font CDNs: web fonts load from public font-delivery networks. They may log your IP when fetching a font. No cookies are set by the font requests themselves.
• Public Pokémon data APIs: serve Pokémon sprites and cry audio. Standard CDN logging only.
• Edge / CDN provider: routes and caches every request. May set strictly-technical cookies for bot-protection. These are not used to track you across sites.
• Transactional email provider: if you submit your email, it is stored with our email provider solely for our use.

Cookies and tracking

We do not set any first-party tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies. The only cookies you may encounter are:

• Technical bot-protection cookies set by our CDN (no tracking purpose)
• Cookies set by the embedded daily video if you click "play"

Your rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA

If you are in the EU, UK, California, or any jurisdiction with comparable privacy law, you have the right to:

• Access any personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion (right to be forgotten)
• Object to processing or withdraw consent
• Data portability: receive your data in a portable format
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, email hi@pokedaily.net. We respond within 30 days. Note: most user data lives in your browser's localStorage; you can delete it yourself any time via your browser settings.

Children

This site is general-audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (under 16 in the EU). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Data retention

• Push subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, or after 90 days of consecutive delivery failures.
• Email addresses: until you ask us to delete them or unsubscribe.
• Request submissions: 12 months after the request is resolved.
• Server logs: retained by our edge / CDN infrastructure for at most a few days for abuse prevention.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change this policy, we will update the "Effective" date at the top and notify subscribers via our next email digest. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
