Who they are.
Roy joins the Brave Asagi crew in HZ005, four episodes after Liko's debut. He grew up in a Kanto fishing village idolizing the Pokémon Survey Corps and the Volt Tacklers. His grandfather is an old fisher named Tarou; his Ancient Poké Ball is a heirloom that contains a partner Pokémon from a different era (the show eventually reveals the partner connects to the legendary trainer Lucius's storyline).
Lucha-libre physicality: jumps into battles, climbs anything within reach, tackles head-on. Catches Fuecoco as a starter in HZ005; later catches Wattrel and a wild Pikachu. The Pikachu is significant - the show makes a point of distinguishing it from both Ash's Pikachu and Captain Pikachu, establishing Pikachus as a species rather than as Ash's sole property.
