Background

Who they are.

Dot is the Brave Asagi's resident hacker, communications operator, and emotional outlier. She lives full-time on the airship and rarely leaves her room; her social interaction is mediated through her streaming avatar "Nidothing," a confident green-haired persona she broadcasts to a worldwide audience of fans. The contrast between in-person Dot (anxious, quiet, often in pajamas) and on-stream Nidothing (charismatic, in command) is the franchise's most modern character archetype.

Her arc across Horizons is slow but earned: Season 1 sees her communicate primarily through screens; Season 2 has her venture outside the airship in person more often; Season 3 (Rising Hope) features her training and battling alongside the rest of the crew. Partners Quaxly (which evolves to Quaxwell) and Tinkatink (which evolves to Tinkatuff). The show treats her social anxiety with care rather than as a joke.

Legacy

Why this character mattered.

Most contemporary character archetype the show has ever attempted. The hikikomori-coder-streamer combination is unprecedented in mainline Pokémon. Influenced wider anime's portrayal of internet-native characters.
