Generation X: TBA.
This is the franchise's first true Switch 2 generation. The paired title format (Winds and Waves) leans into elemental opposition: sky versus sea, rather than the usual mineral or metallic naming convention. The starter trio broke pattern: a bean-chick (Browt), a fluffy puppy (Pombon), and a wall-climbing gecko (Gecqua) instead of the usual mammal / reptile / amphibian set. Version-exclusive Pikachu companions (Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu) were the surprise of the trailer; nothing at this scale of Pikachu variant has shipped before.

Legacy
Too early to write. The hardware jump alone (Switch 2's bigger CPU/GPU budget) suggests Game Freak finally has room to address the performance ceiling that defined Gen 9 launch. The version-paired Pikachu variants are the most-discussed element of the reveal so far: a structural change to how the franchise handles its mascot across a title pair. Watch this space.
