The closing arc of Ash Ketchum's run. After the Alola League win, Pokémon Journeys cuts the badge-quest formula entirely. Ash and new co-lead Goh, who aims to catch every Pokémon and find Mew, work as Research Fellows under Professor Cerise in Vermilion City. Episodes can take place in any prior region, including a Hisui flashback arc that ties into Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The structural spine is the World Coronation Series tournament, a global ladder culminating in the Masters Eight against Lance, Cynthia, Steven, Diantha, Iris, Leon, and ultimately Champion Leon himself. Ash wins. After 26 years, 1,232 episodes, 9 regions, he is finally the canonical Pokémon World Champion. The 11-episode "Aim to Be a Pokémon Master" epilogue sends him on one last Kanto tour with Misty and Brock.

JP OP "1, 2, 3" by After the Rain became one of the most-streamed Pokémon openings worldwide. The Masters Eight arc gets dedicated battle themes; the Leon finale uses an orchestral arrangement of Pallet Town's motif.

How it lands now.

Initially divisive (the catch-everything format polarized hardcore fans), it ages into a beloved farewell arc. The Masters Eight is universally praised; the Cynthia and Leon matches are top-tier. The epilogue divided viewers (some wanted a clean cut, some loved the Kanto callback).
