0:05It watches the way its parents move their wings and it's trying to memorize how the thing is done.

0:06It can't do it yet.

0:07It knows it can't do it yet, but.

0:08it keeps watching anyway.

0:09But here's what Ducklett is doing while it waits to be able to fly.

0:10It dives.

0:11It goes down into the deep part of the pond and it swims, over and over, and every dive makes its body a little stronger.

0:12Ducklett is better at swimming than flying right now, so it trains in the water, where it's already good, building the strength it's going to need later in the air.

0:13Nobody watching the pond sees a bird becoming a flyer.

0:14They just see a duckling paddling around underwater.

0:14But that's the training.

0:15That's the whole thing.

0:16The flying comes later, and it comes because of the diving nobody noticed.

0:19Flying looks effortless when they do it.

0:20And you can't do it yet, and you know you can't, and some days that feels like proof that you never will.
