Emolga.
The energy made in its cheeks’ electric pouches is stored inside its membrane and released while it is gliding.

0:00What if I told you Emolga is not actually flying.
0:03It never has been.
0:06It just got really good at making a fall look like one.
0:09This is Emolga.
0:12The little flying squirrel everybody pictures zipping around up in the sky.
0:16But watch what it actually does.
0:19It climbs.
0:22All the way to the top of a tree, as high as it can get.
0:25And then it throws itself off.
0:28It stretches out the flaps between its arms and its legs and it glides, and for a few seconds it looks graceful and free and completely in control.
0:31But it is not flying.
0:34It is falling.
0:37The entire time it is up there looking effortless, it is heading straight down.
0:40Every glide ends lower than it started.
0:43That is just what gliding is.
0:47A fall with really good form.
0:50And here is the part nobody watches.
0:53Before Emolga can do that again, before it can look free again, it has to climb the whole way back up.
0:56It cannot gain a single inch of height in the air.
0:59Every few seconds of looking weightless costs it a long climb that nobody claps for.
1:02Emolga is not lazy, and it is not showing off.
1:05It took the one thing it was stuck with, falling, and it taught itself to make it look like flight.
1:08And it pays for every second of that with a climb no one ever sees.
1:11Some of you already know what that feels like.
1:14So be honest down in the comments.
1:18Is that flying?
1:21Or is it just falling in a way that fools everyone watching?
1:24Because from the ground, you honestly cannot tell.
1:27So what do YOU call it?
Speed is the whole game at 103.
Emolga's base stat total is 428. The shape of a stat spread tells you everything about a Pokémon's role. Tanks lean defense, sweepers lean speed and attack.
