0:00What if I told you there's a Pokémon that's a 20,000-year-old doll, that came to life on its own, and the ancient people who made it based it on something that came down from the sky.
0:04This is Claydol, and its Pokédex entry is one of the strangest in the whole series.
0:08It says Claydol was created 20,000 years ago by an ancient civilization, out of clay, as a doll.
0:12And then one day, on its own, it just started moving.
0:16Nobody switched it on, the lore says it literally came alive by ITSELF!
0:20And you know what's crazy?
0:25That's not even the wild part!
0:29Claydol is actually based on something real.
0:33In ancient Japan, thousands of years ago, people carved these little clay figures called dogū.
0:37And one specific kind, the exact kind Claydol is modeled on, looks genuinely bizarre.
0:41They've got these huge round goggle-eyes, like they're wearing a helmet, or a spacesuit.
0:45They don't really look like people at all.
0:49And there's a real theory about them.
0:53Some folks genuinely believe those ancient figures aren't carvings of humans.
0:57They think they're pictures of visitors.
1:01Things that came down from the sky, that the ancient people saw and tried to copy in clay.
1:05And because Claydol's own Pokédex says the ancient people modeled it after something that descended from the sky.
1:10The game is telling you, flat out, that this thing is an old civilization's attempt to recreate whatever they watched come down.
1:14So what's Claydol actually supposed to be?
1:18A clay doll that randomly came to life...?
1:22Or a 20,000-year-old statue of something that visited us, that then stood up and walked off?
1:26Drop your theory, because they built this one out of a real mystery and never once solved it!
Sp. Defense 120, HP 60. Pick your poison.
Claydol's base stat total is 500. The shape of a stat spread tells you everything about a Pokémon's role. Tanks lean defense, sweepers lean speed and attack.
