0:00What if I told you one of the strongest psychic Pokémon in the entire game is officially not a Psychic type.
0:03And fans have been arguing about it for almost thirty years.
0:05This is Golduck.
0:08It floats objects with its mind.
0:11It reads and controls thoughts.
0:13That gem on its forehead glows when it channels its psychic power, and when it does, it can pull off telekinesis strong enough to flatten opponents.
0:16By everything it actually does, it's a textbook Psychic type.
0:19And its type is Water.
0:21Just Water.
0:24Nothing else.
0:26No Psychic in there at all.
0:29It's been that way since 1996, and people still refuse to accept it, because it makes no sense.
0:32The most obviously psychic-looking, psychic-acting Pokémon in Kanto, and the games just went, nope, it's a duck that swims.
0:34Now here's why that actually means something.
0:37Let's rewind for a moment and go back to how it started, to what it was originally.
0:40Psyduck.
0:42Psyduck's psychic power is real, and it's massive.
0:45But it only ever comes out when its headache gets bad enough.
0:48It can't summon or control it.
0:50It just erupts on its worst days, and when it does, Psyduck is in such a daze that it's barely even aware it happened.
0:53Picture that for a second.
0:56A Pokémon with an unbelievable gift, that it can't call on, can't control, and can't even really witness in itself.
0:58It does impossible things, and it's got nothing to show for it.
1:01And to everyone watching, it's just a confused little duck standing there holding its head.
1:04So of course the games never called it Psychic.
1:06Its entire existence is having a power that's completely real, and that the whole world, even the people who built it, refuse to officially call what it is.
1:09And then it becomes Golduck.
1:11And Golduck doesn't rage about the label.
1:14It doesn't fight for the credit.
1:17It just gets calm, and it gets control, and it uses that power every single day, and it lets the whole world keep calling it a water type.
1:19Because somewhere between Psyduck and Golduck, it stopped needing anybody else to confirm what it already knew it was.
1:22So here's the real question.
1:25Is it a crime that Golduck still isn't a Psychic type?
1:27Or is that the entire point?

Golduck's base stat total is 500. The shape of a stat spread tells you everything about a Pokémon's role. Tanks lean defense, sweepers lean speed and attack.
