0:00What if I told you one of the saddest Pokémon in the whole anime is an old Scyther that lost everything to a younger, faster version of itself.
0:02This is Scyther.
0:05Well, one specific Scyther, from an early episode most people have never even seen.
0:07And what happens to it is genuinely rough.
0:09So this Scyther used to run things.
0:12It was the leader of a whole swarm, the strongest one, the one all the others followed around.
0:14For years, that was just its life.
0:16It was the best, and everybody knew it.
0:18And then a younger Scyther showed up and challenged it.
0:21Faster, fresher, and it beat the old leader.
0:23And that was all it took.
0:25It's not like the old one got lazy or messed up.
0:28It just aged.
0:30Something quicker came along, it lost the fight, and in that swarm, losing that fight means you're done.
0:32So it got pushed out of the only home it had ever had.
0:35On its own now, banged up, past its best, and the only way back in was to somehow climb all the way to the top again, as an old injured Scyther, against the entire swarm.
0:37Which, let's be real, was never happening.
0:39So it just left.
0:42Went off and lived alone.
0:44An old champion still covered in the scars from a life it used to lead, with nobody left to lead anymore.
0:46But the story doesn't end there, and this is the part that gets people.
0:48Later on, it runs into a young Charizard.
0:51Cocky, powerful, the exact kind of young hotshot that ends up replacing the old ones.
0:53And you'd figure a Charizard like that would just write off some beat-up old bug without a second thought.
0:55It doesn't.
0:58It actually looks at this aging Scyther and sees what the young challenger never bothered to, that all those years, all those scars, they're worth something.
1:00That experience is its own kind of strength.
1:02So it respects it, and the two of them end up fighting side by side.
1:05So the old warrior finally figures out the thing nobody warns you about while you're still on top.
1:07Getting older doesn't make you useless.
1:09You just trade a little speed for something those fast young ones don't have yet.
1:12And one day they won't be fast either, and they'll find out the exact same way it did.
1:14Because that's how it goes.
1:16Sooner or later, every one of us turns into the old Scyther.
