0:00What if I told you there's one Pokémon, out of every single one ever made, that is officially right there in the games called the Legendary Pokémon.

0:02And it's NOT a legendary.

0:05You can catch it in the grass!

0:07This is Arcanine.

0:09And this isn't a fan nickname or some old rumor.

0:11Open the Pokédex and look at its category, that little label every Pokémon gets.

0:14Bulbasaur is the Seed Pokémon.

0:16Pikachu is the Mouse Pokémon.

0:18And Arcanine, only Arcanine, out of more than a thousand of them, is labeled the Legendary Pokémon.

0:20It's the one and only species that carries that word.

0:23And that label isn't random.

0:25Arcanine is built on an actual legend.

0:27Its whole design comes from the guardian lion, the mythical stone lion dogs that have stood watch over temples in East Asian legend for centuries.

0:29This thing was carved out of real myth from the very start.

0:31And it goes further.

0:34Go back and watch the very first season of the anime.

0:36There's a wall inside a Pokémon Center with ancient carvings of the legendary Pokémon.

0:38Articuno.

0:41Zapdos.

0:43Moltres.

0:45And set in the stone right next to them, Arcanine.

0:47Treated, on screen, like one of the legends.

0:50So put it together.

0:52A Pokémon whose category literally says legendary.

0:54Whose design is an absolute legend.

0:56That stands carved in stone beside the legendary birds.

0:59And yet in the actual games, it's a normal Fire type you can catch on a route like anything else.

1:01Not a true legendary.

1:03Just a really good dog.

1:05And that gap, the tiny space between everything Arcanine is and the one label it never got, is the reason one of the oldest arguments in the whole fandom still hasn't died.

1:08One side swears Arcanine was meant to be a legendary and got left out at the last second.

1:10The other side says it was never meant to be one, that the word just points back to the myth it came from.

1:12And in almost thirty years, nobody has ever gotten a straight answer.

1:14But here's the part that actually hits.

1:17It doesn't really matter which side is right.

1:19Because Arcanine has spent decades being legendary in every way that counts, the name, the myth, the place beside the greats, and it still gets left off the official list.

1:21And people have been fighting in its corner the whole time, harder than they fight for half the real legendaries.
