0:00What if I told you there's a Pokémon that exists because humans polluted the ocean.
0:03We created it by accident.
0:06And in the current games, it's going extinct, because of us, again.
0:09This is Grimer.
0:12And nobody has ever loved this thing.
0:15It's the gross one, the joke pick, the one you run from in the tall grass.
0:18So here's its actual story, straight from the Pokédex, and it might change how you look at it forever.
0:21Start with where it came from.
0:24Grimer wasn't bred, and it wasn't discovered in some ancient ruin.
0:27The Pokédex says it emerged from sludge that settled on a polluted seabed, transformed by X-rays coming off the moon.
0:30We dumped our mess into the ocean, the moon hit it just right, and something came alive.
0:33Every Grimer that has ever existed traces back to our trash.
0:36And what did it do with that existence?
0:39It cleaned.
0:42Its favorite food is the filth nothing else on the planet will touch.
0:45The dirtiest work in the entire Pokémon world, and this thing does it every single day, for free, while everybody calls it disgusting.
0:48And humans knew exactly how useful it was.
0:51When the Alola region had a garbage crisis, people shipped Grimer in on purpose to eat the problem.
0:54Their official Pokédex entry describes them as hard workers who eat a lot of trash.
0:57The games said it themselves, it's the literal janitor of the Pokémon world.
1:00Now read its newer entries in order, because they tell a whole story in three lines.
1:03First: this Pokémon's numbers have been decreasing in recent years.
1:06Then: in a sterile environment, it can't survive.
1:09And finally in Pokémon Ultra Moon, it drops this bombshell: the wastewater coming from factories is clean these days, so Grimer have nothing to eat.
1:12They're said to be on the verge of extinction.
1:15We made it, we used it, and then we cleaned up our act and never once looked back at the thing we left behind.
1:18It did its job so well the world stopped needing it.
1:21Thirty years of cleaning up after all of us, and it's fading out of the games without so much as a goodbye.
1:24Say thank you to Grimer in the comments, it's earned that much.
1:27And did you know it was going extinct, or is this the first you're hearing of it?!
HP 80, Speed 25. Pick your poison.
