Dragonair.
Its graceful body glows with a soft aura as it drifts silently through the sky. Legends say its appearance heralds calm weather and gentle rain.

0:00What if I told you the most beautiful Pokémon ever designed is one the game never intended you to keep.
0:03This is Dragonair.
0:06Look at how the Pokédex actually writes about it, because no other Pokémon gets described like this.
0:09The games call it the divine Pokémon.
0:12When an aura wraps around its body, the weather changes, instantly.
0:15Storms settle.
0:18Skies clear.
0:21And the people who live near it know exactly what's in their water, because the lakes where Dragonair makes its home are filled with offerings, gifts left in gratitude by people it has never even met.
0:24And the flying part is even better than it sounds.
0:27Dragonair does have those two little white wings on its head, but the Pokédex says they're not how it flies.
0:30Its entry literally describes it flying even though it has no wings, so the tiny ones up top are basically jewelry.
0:33It just rises off the water and rides the wind, because apparently the sky makes exceptions for some things.
0:36But there's what I would call an "ache" built into this Pokémon, and every longtime player knows it.
0:39Dragonair only exists in between.
0:42It's not the little one you catch, and it's not the final form standing on anybody's championship team.
0:45It arrives in the middle of the journey, stays for a stretch, and then it's meant to become something else.
0:48The prettiest thing in the entire game only lives in the middle of the story.
0:51Nobody stays Dragonair.
0:54Except the game leaves you two outs.
0:57Every level, when the evolution screen starts, you can press B, and it stays, one more level at a time.
1:00And for the players who already knew their answer, the games sell an actual item called the Everstone, a little rock with exactly one purpose, a Pokémon holding it will never evolve.
1:03So people handed their Dragonair a stone to carry, like a promise.
1:06And millions of players did one or the other, entire playthroughs long, not because what comes next is bad, but because this one is perfect, and they knew it while they had it.
1:09And everybody has a Dragonair chapter of their own.
1:12The in-between season.
1:15The apartment with your best friends, the summer before everything changed, the version of your life that was never supposed to be permanent.
1:18The part of the journey you can't keep is the part you'd give anything to visit again.
1:21So be honest in the comments.
1:24Did you ever refuse to evolve your Dragonair, and which way, the B button or the Everstone?
1:27And what's the chapter of your life you would've pressed B on forever?
Attack carries the kit at 84.
Dragonair's base stat total is 420. The shape of a stat spread tells you everything about a Pokémon's role. Tanks lean defense, sweepers lean speed and attack.
