0:03Thousands of chases, zero catches, a lifetime of guaranteed losses.
0:06And it's the happiest thing in the whole game.
0:09This is Skitty.
0:12And its Pokédex entry might just be the most honest description of joy ever written into these games.
0:16It says Skitty becomes fascinated by anything that moves, and it has to chase it.
0:19A leaf, a shadow, a sway of grass, doesn't matter.
0:22And when nothing else is moving, it chases its own tail, around and around, until it gets so dizzy it falls right over.
0:25And then it gets up and does it again.
0:28Stay on that for a second, because it's better than it sounds.
0:31Skitty knows how this ends.
0:34It has chased that tail its whole life and it has never caught it once, because catching it is impossible, the thing is attached to it.
0:37Every single chase is a guaranteed loss.
0:40And it has never mattered to this creature for one second, because Skitty was never chasing to catch.
0:43It chases because chasing is the good part.
0:47The dizziness, the falling over, the getting back up, that IS the game.
0:50Even the anime knew!
0:53When May caught one, the first thing it did was pop out of its ball and spin after its own tail until it tipped over, completely delighted with itself.
0:56And somewhere along the way, most of us lost exactly that.
0:59Everything became a goal.
1:02Steps counted, streaks tracked, hobbies turned into side hustles.
1:05And the things we did just for the spinning, the drawing nobody sees, the song played badly, the walk with no destination, those got called a waste of time.
1:08Skitty knows it will never catch the tail...
