Cyndaquil.
It has a timid nature. If it is startled, the flames on its back burn more vigorously.

0:00What if I told you that in twenty five years of loving Cyndaquil, the moment everybody loves it most is the moment it's terrified.
0:03Cyndaquil is the softest thing Johto ever handed a ten year old.
0:06A Fire starter that keeps its eyes closed and stands there hunched over, and its Pokédex entry uses a word you will not find on any other Fire starter.
0:09Timid..It gets scared.
0:12When the world's too much for it, it curls up into a ball, which has to be the least Fire-type sentence ever written.
0:16Now here's what most people never noticed about its back.
0:19The flames aren't always on.
0:22A calm Cyndaquil, a safe one, a happy one, has a bare back.
0:25No fire anywhere, just a sleepy little Pokémon with its eyes shut.
0:28The Pokédex tells you exactly what brings the fire out, and it's getting attacked, getting startled, getting angry or surprised.
0:31That fire is its alarm going off.
0:34Now think about every picture of Cyndaquil you've ever seen.
0:37The battle sprites, blazing.
0:40The card art, blazing.
0:43Every time you sent yours out and its back roared to life and you thought, there it is, that's my starter.
0:47What you were cheering for was a scared little Pokémon hitting its panic button, and then doing the job anyway.
0:50Every battle of your whole Johto run, it went in scared, because you asked it to.
0:53There was never a fearless version.
0:56There was only a scared one that went in.
0:59The anime even showed everybody this and played it for laughs.
1:02Ash's Cyndaquil was famous for a flame that took forever to start, and people called it broken, or lazy.
1:05Except go by its own Pokédex for a second.
1:08Maybe nothing about it was broken.
1:11Maybe that one just took longer to get scared, and the calmest Cyndaquil anybody ever caught spent years getting laughed at for being at peace.
1:14So here's what goes in the comments, and be brave about it, because the little guy was.
1:18Name the thing you did terrified.
1:21One line, no story needed.
1:24The speech, the phone call, the first day, the flight.
1:27And when you see somebody else's, like it, because every one of those comments is a flame that went on anyway.
Speed is the whole game at 65.
Cyndaquil's base stat total is 309. The shape of a stat spread tells you everything about a Pokémon's role. Tanks lean defense, sweepers lean speed and attack.
