Its actual appearance is unknown. A scholar who saw what was under its rag was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock.

0:00What if I told you that somewhere in Alola tonight, a little Pokémon is sitting in front of a mirror with a needle, fixing a Pikachu costume it made for itself, because tomorrow it plans to try again.
0:03Mimikyu has been lonely for as long as the Pokédex has known about it.
0:07Its real body scares everything off, so it stays hidden under an old rag, and for a long time that was the whole sad arrangement.
0:10Then, about ten years back, it started noticing Pikachu.
0:14On the bags.
0:17On the shirts.
0:21In every kid's arms, everywhere it looked, the world was hugging the same yellow face.
0:24And you can follow its thinking from there, because every lonely kid on earth has had the same thought at least once...
0:28"Fine, then I'll be like that too!" So it found a rag and made the costume.
0:31Nobody helped, and you can see that part right away.
0:35The ears flop the wrong direction, the tail is a crooked stick of a thing, and the face is scribbled on sideways, because whatever was holding the crayon barely has hands.
0:38It put the costume on, and it went out to meet everybody.
0:42The costume convinced nobody.
0:45It's a kid's drawing of Pikachu draped over a small ghost, and everyone who has ever met one knew inside a second that something was underneath.
0:48And when a battle rips the rag, or the neck flops over sideways, Mimikyu waits for dark, sets up in front of a mirror, and sews until morning.
0:52The Pokédex says it works like its life depends on it, and that the sewing is hard, so it cries the whole time, on the inside, where nobody can see that either.
0:55Then the sun comes up, and the crooked little costume walks back out to try again.
0:59It has been trying for years.
1:02And somewhere along the way, people started loving it.
1:06Top of the popularity polls, plushes in every store, one of the most drawn, most celebrated faces in the whole franchise.
1:09And now, at the closing of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, they announced the first Pokémon movie in seven years, Pokémon: Wild Card and there in the teaser is Mimikyu.
1:13Now look at the person standing with it.

1:2010 years after a lonely little ghost sewed itself a costume of the world's favorite, the world is showing up dressed as Mimikyu.
1:23Nobody ever loved Mimikyu because the costume worked.
