0:00What if I told you the most defensive Pokémon in the forest, the one nobody's allowed to go near, spent a whole season of its life unable to move at all.
0:04You know Beedrill as the warning.
0:08Three stingers, two on the arms and one on the tail, all of them poison.
0:12The Pokédex tells you not to go anywhere near its nest, and it says the reason out loud, for your own safety, because if you get it angry, it doesn't come alone.
0:16It comes as a SWARM.
0:20Every kid who walked into Viridian Forest learned that one the hard way.
0:25Beedrill is the thing that comes at you.
0:29But go back a little, because Beedrill didn't start as the thing that comes at you.
0:33It started as Kakuna, and the Kakuna entries are some of the saddest in the whole Pokédex once you actually stop and look at them.
0:37Almost incapable of moving.
0:41That's the first line.
0:45It clings to a branch, it hides under a leaf, and the only thing it can do to protect itself is harden its shell.
0:49That's it.
0:53It can't run, It can't sting, It can't call anybody.
0:57It hangs there, and if something with a beak finds it, there is nothing it can do about that except be hard and hope.
1:01And the entry adds one more thing, which is the part that really gets to people.
1:05On the inside, it's extremely busy.
1:10Working.
1:14Building the version of itself that will be able to move.
1:18All of that, on a branch, in the open, for as long as it takes.
1:22So when it finally comes out, it comes out with three stingers and a temper, and it never lets anything near the nest again.
1:26And everybody meets that version and calls it aggressive.
Attack 90, Defense 40. Pick your poison.
Beedrill's base stat total is 395. The shape of a stat spread tells you everything about a Pokémon's role. Tanks lean defense, sweepers lean speed and attack.
