Gastly.

0:00So what if I told you the ghost so many of us were scared of as kids weighs less than the phone in your hand?

0:05In Lavender Town, there's a tower full of Pokémon graves.

0:09You climb those stairs with that music playing, and something comes at you out of the dark.

0:14The screen just says, "Darn!

0:19The GHOST can't be ID'd!" Which, when you're eight, is the scariest thing a Game Boy has ever said to you.

0:24Your Pokémon is too scared to move, so you do what every kid did and run.

0:28Almost every time, the thing hiding under that word was a Gastly.

0:33It's over four feet of gas that weighs 0.2 pounds, and one strong wind makes its body dwindle away.

0:38So when the wind picks up, Gastly huddle together under the edge of people's roofs, right up against the houses of the same people who run from them.

0:43If anybody ever decided you were scary or weird from across the room, you know how this goes.

0:47You end up as a word somebody else picked for you, and nobody sticks around long enough to find out the rest.

0:52The game made you work for it, too.

0:57To see what that ghost really was, you had to fight through a whole Team Rocket hideout in another city for one special scope, then walk all the way back up those stairs.

1:02Most people in real life never come back for the scope.

1:06But you did.

1:11You climbed back up, and when it came out of the dark this time, the screen said, "SILPH SCOPE unveiled the GHOST's identity!" And there it was, a little round Gastly with a big goofy grin.

1:16For the first time, you could catch it and take it home, and the thing that used to ride out the wind under somebody's roof finally got to come inside.

1:21So if you've been somebody's ghost story for a long time, hang on through the wind.

1:25The right people come back with the scope, and when they finally see you, they're going to wonder why they ever ran.
